Project Summary
Treatment and Recovery for Women and Families in Northwestern Pennsylvania serves women and families in rural Erie and Venango Counties with an integrated and multi-pronged approach to our priority problem: Substance use creates multigenerational impacts as evidenced by high rates of neonatal abstinence syndrome treatment in infants and involvement with child protective services and is complicated by access barriers for treatment, recovery and supports for substance use disorder. The overarching goals set to mitigate the impacts of substance use on our women and families are: Increase the number of women engaged in evidence-based SUD care; Reduce the number of babies requiring pharmacologic and/or neonatal intensive care unit treatment for neonatal abstinence syndrome/withdrawal; Increased community participation and support for evidence-based treatment, recovery and support options for women and families; Enhance prevention through education, targeted naloxone distribution, medication collection/disposal, and stigma reduction. This three-year initiative expands and enhances evidence-based prevention, treatment and recovery services, targeting women who are experiencing SUD/OUD, pregnant and postpartum women, and their families. The project will expand family-friendly services that reduce barriers to access and target the needs of families specifically through: preventative education; collaborative screening and referral planning; expansion of evidence-based treatment; enhanced recovery and sober living opportunities for women and families; family support services; and community wide education and engagement.
