The State of Ohio has been on the forefront of the addiction crisis since the opiate epidemic came to light in the early 2000’s. In Southwest Ohio, Butler County’s 176 unintentional drug overdose deaths accounted for 5 percent of the state’s overall total in 2018.
Our consortium has examined the prevention, treatment, and recovery continuum of services in the target rural service area of Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania, and has chosen to think beyond the characteristic methods for reducing opioid access and use.
Three target populations have been identified for this project: American Indians, pregnant, parenting, or other women of child-bearing age, and youth.

The project focuses on three areas: prevention, treatment, and recovery. For the prevention area, the project has targeted the general community by holding a town hall and a community education night, conducting community surveys, and speaking at community meetings throughout the county.

This project serves the people and rural communities of Haskell, Latimer, Leflore, Muskogee, Pittsburg, and McIntosh Counties in southeastern Oklahoma. An area we know well, as we live and work in these communities.
